The
King of Dates - Large, only 16 - 18 per pound, soft and perfectly
delicious. Often called the :"King of Dates" because they
were the favorite of the Moroccan royal family. In fact, the entire U.S.
supply came from eleven trees imported from French Morocco in 1927.
95% of all
dates grown in the U.S. are from the Coachella Valley of Southern
California. The first offshoots were brought to the U.S. in 1900 by
the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The male palm
never bears fruit but produces enough pollen to pollinate approximately
fifty female palms, or one acre. Pollination is done by hand,
because bees and insects are not attracted to the female bloom
Each jumbo
fresh medjool date is only 45 calories, is low in sodium, contains protein
and fiber and is rich in Iron, Potassium and Niacin.
